Many people have been fed up with advertisements for beauty products, which were most often accompanied by photos of celebrities such as Kim and Khloe Kardashian, and have been blocked by the social network Instagram. The reason for the blocking was to mislead users. The advertising agency ASA, which is responsible for managing advertising standards, saw this kind of publication as a promise to customers to become like their idols.
It has also been added that it is strictly prohibited on Instagram to publish advertisements promoting various fillers and procedures using botulinum toxin, which is the mainstay of Botox production. On top of all this, the social network administration has added that it will stop showing advertisements for cosmetic surgery and weight loss products to teenagers.
The banned type of advertisement was previously published by Beauty Boutique Aesthetics. The post contained pictures of Kim Kardashian. The ASA has since stated that the company has not provided any evidence that staff are capable of handling a complex cosmetic procedure that could cause allergic reactions in customers.
Similarly, the Faces by AKJ Aesthetics and Queen of Aesthetics advertising posts were blocked. They were advertising the so-called “Kylie Jenner kit”. This kit included a chin, cheek and lip filler. However, Queen of Aesthetics stated that with their advertisement they did not aim to show people that they could turn any girl into Kylie. This particular celebrity was chosen because Kylie Jenner is known to most of the company’s target audience, and the photo shows specific areas where the procedure can be performed.
According to many organisations, it is almost impossible to become like an idol or any other celebrity without surgery. It is also said that people who come for such procedures are trying to solve some specific problems, but changing one’s appearance may not always make one a better person.
